history > For Joe Rosenthal

Click for larger viewJoe Rosenthal (October 9, 1911 – August 20, 2006) was an American photographer who received the Pulitzer Prize for his iconic World War II portrait of American troops raising the flag on Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Rosenthal was born in Washington, D.C.. His interest in photography started as a hobby in San Francisco, California, during the Great Depression, where he lived with a brother while looking for work. He became a reporter-photographer for the San Francisco News in 1932.

Rejected by the army as a photographer because of poor eyesight, Rosenthal joined the Associated Press (AP) and followed the Marines in the Pacific Theater of Operations during the war. His picture of five marines and a navy corpsman raising the flag on Mount Suribachi (Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima) on February 23, 1945 became one of the best-known photographs of the war.

Rosenthal left the AP later in 1945 and joined the San Francisco Chronicle. He worked there as a photographer for 35 years before retiring.

Rosenthal was extensively interviewed after September 11, 2001 when Thomas E. Franklin shot a similar iconic photograph, Ground Zero Spirit, depiciting the raising of the flag by three firefighters at the World Trade Center. Rosenthal and Franklin met several times after the event.

At age 94, Rosenthal died of natural causes in a center for assisted living in Novato, a suburb of San Francisco.

The flag-raising photo
On Feb. 23, 1945, four days after D-Day at Iwo Jima, Rosenthal was making his daily visit to the island on a Marine landing craft when he heard that a flag was being raised atop Mount Suribachi, a volcano at the southern tip of the island.

Upon landing, Rosenthal hurried toward Suribachi, lugging along his bulky Speed Graphic camera, the standard for press photographers at the time. When he got about halfway up, he heard that flag had already been raised on the summit. He continued up anyway. For some reason, Marine commanders decided to replace the first flag with a second larger flag.

Rosenthal did not know where the first flag had been raised, so he focused his attention on the group of Marines preparing to raise the second flag.

Rosenthal piled up some stones and a sandbag so he had something on which to stand, as he was only 1.65m (5 feet 5 inches) tall. He set his camera for a lens setting between f/8 and f/11 and put the speed at 1/400th second.

Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw the group of Marines start to raise the second flag. He swung his camera around toward the action and pushed the shutter button.

Just to make sure he actually had a worthwhile photo to send to his agency, he gathered all the Marines on the summit together for a shot under the flag.

The photo has become the photographic embodiment of WWII. It may well be the most widely reproduced photo ever. It served as the symbol for the seventh War Loan Drive, for which it was plastered on 3.5 million posters. It was used on a U.S. postage stamp and on the cover of countless magazines and newspapers. It served as the model for the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Virginia.

After running into some errors with internet explorer, I re installed the browser and svchost.exe started to take up all the RAM it could before it crashed or before it crashed Internet Explorer. Svchost.exe was taking up over 320 megs of RAM.

Troubleshooting:

The system is clean. It passed a virus scan and mutiple anti spyware scans. After searching the web I found that editing the registry fixed my problem.

Solution:

If you are familiar with RegEdit, start it up and do the following:

  1. Go to this key in RegEdit -HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
  2. With the Explorer key highlighted click edit, new, key.
  3. Name the new key "AlwaysUnloadDLL", without quotes.
  4. After you have named the key, click the key and then right click on (Default) in the right window. Select modify and set the value data to 1.

Do not be mistaken, George Bush loves you. He sets the best examples for all Americans to follow.

With a president that has never been able to admit he was wrong about anything, he asks us to believe in what he has to say, again. Let me tell you what George Bush and the rest of the republicans riding this terrorist bandwagon are going to say for the next 200 years.

If you are not with us you are with the terrorist. If you do not support what the republicans want, you invite terrorist to the USA. If you are a democrat, you are a terrorist. If you do not like what I have to say, you are a terrorist. Anything you do that I do not say you can do, is a terrorist activity.

Are we to believe that a C student from Yale, who has been known to lie to America about the most important issues at hands, has the answers to the problems of the United States? George Bush's plans for America's future is fighting war with anyone who is near oil.

"If we ever give up the desire to help people who want to live in a free society, we will have lost our soul as a nation," Bush said.

Our soul as a nation will never be lost. We did not wage this war against Iraq. Bush and Cheney waged this war against Iraq. They are the ones who lied to us about Iraq. America's soul? How about your soul Bush? How about the lying to congress? How about the dictatorship you have taken our country to in the name of terrorist? Everything illegal Bush does he does so in the name of terrorist. Well, from what we have been told about these terrorist, they are getting what they want. They do not want us to be free, so it seems right that our government takes our freedoms away. Maybe that way the terrorist will go away once all of our American Constitutional freedoms are gone.

Bush: Hezbollah must not re-arm

In another part of Bush lie speech, he thought that his C average at Yale would give him some insight on the Lebanon / Israel conflict. Once again he is mistaken. His history of the conflict is brief, which it should be if he chooses Lebanon's Hezbollah as the "evil doers". Of course going by almost all news media and especially the Bush Regime this conflict is all do to Hezbollah terrorist.

Israel has been invading Lebanon for decades and the United Nations has written sanctions against those attacks. However Israel defies those sanctions, while the United States supports Israel by means of weapons and intelligence. Weapons that include long range missiles.

If this last conflict between Israel and Lebanon was over 2 Israel soldiers, why did Israel agree to the cease fire without the soldiers release?

George Bush wants war, because even he said, "I am a war time president". I'm tired of the bullshit war, and the lies from a president that should hang from a gibbet. Why?

1. 9/11 was an inside job and covered up by Bush Regime
2. Iraq war was a complete lie. Directed by the Bush regime to start a war. Everything about the Iraq war was a lie.
3. Breaking the constitution is never accepted for any reason. The constitution has been around longer than George Bush and his dumb ass Regime knows very little of the value that document represents.
4. George Bush is a dumb ass plain and simple. Bush likes to give tax breaks to the 1% of the US population. Bush also likes killing American soldiers over a bunch of lies he has told for many years now.

Conclusion:

If you do not like the constitution, like being lied to and you like dead American soldiers, then president bush is the dictator for you.

Otherwise start shouting impeachment. George Bush is worse than Saddam Hussein ever could hope to be and on his way to being a new Hitler for the 21st century.

Google News,

Please do us all a favor and stop linking to "news" articles linked to MTV.com. MTV use to stand for Music Television. MTV rarely, if ever,  plays music videos, this fact goes back maybe six or seven years. Seeing that MTV has to have an alternative channel for Music Videos, it seems that referencing them as a news agency is without reason.

Not to mention the sub standard music that they do play from time to time that has no value. Also the countless reality shows that have a bunch of yuppy kids running around acting like they are in the real world.

Think about why we were told we were attacked. I say attacked meaning 9/11. 9/11 was an inside and it becomes more clear as I talk about what we have lost.

We were told that we were attacked for being a free country, a beacons of light of the free people of earth. Well maybe the terrorist will stop attacking since the Bush Administration has decided to take away our freedoms one by one.

It may not matter to you, but it matters to me when the government taps my phone illegally. I do not have to be doing anything illegal to be upset, I am upset because they can not follow the law and the notes from the founding fathers. Long before George Bush was shitting yellow, our founding fathers created documents and legislation that helped to protect the people in times of peace and times of war. George Bush and the Neo cons have used fear and war to take away our basic liberties at the expense of their desire to dominate the world and its oil supply.

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a 1978 law that prohibited intelligence monitoring of people inside the United States without a warrant. The NSA does that and tracks emails. The US government has been caught monitoring international bank accounts illegally.

The American Bar Association said that President Bush was flouting the Constitution and undermining the rule of law by claiming the power to disregard selected provisions of bills that he signed.

In a comprehensive report, a bipartisan 11-member panel of the bar association said Mr. Bush had used such “signing statements” far more than his predecessors, raising constitutional objections to more than 800 provisions in more than 100 laws on the ground that they infringed on his prerogatives.

US Constitution (Bill of Rights) US Patriot Act
Amendment IV: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. Freedom from unreasonable searches: The government may search and seize Americans' papers and effects without probable cause to assist terror investigation.
Amendment VI: In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense. Right to a speedy and public trial: The government may jail Americans indefinitely without a trial.
Amendment I: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Freedom of association: To assist terror investigation, the government may monitor religious and political institutions without suspecting criminal activity.
Amendment VI: ... to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense. Right to legal representation: The government may monitor conversations between attorneys and clients in federal prisons and deny lawyers to Americans accused of crimes.
Amendment I: Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech ... Freedom of speech: The government may prosecute librarians or keepers of any other records if they tell anyone the government subpoenaed information related to a terror investigation.
Amendment VI: ... to be confronted with the witnesses against him ... Right to liberty: Americans may be jailed without being charged or being able to confront witnesses against them. US citizens (labeled "unlawful combatants") have been held incommunicado and refused attorneys.

America's constitution was built for times of peace and war. If we lose our freedoms the terrorist should have no reason to attack us anymore. We will no longer be a free nation. This could put terrorist out of business. How many free countries are there left in the world?

Hope is kindled. The Chicago Tribune and many other major news publications(1)(2) started running a story today that shows hope for America and the removal of George Bush.

A federal judge in Detroit on Thursday struck down the National Security Agency's domestic surveillance program, calling it unconstitutional and an illegal abuse of presidential power. The ruling marked the first court rejection of the controversial monitoring program and amounted to a rebuke of the Bush administration's tactics in the war on terrorism.

"In this case, the president has acted, undisputed, as [federal intelligence law] forbids," U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor said in a 43-page decision that sided with the American Civil Liberties Union challenge to the government system of warrant less eavesdropping. "Plaintiffs have prevailed, and the public interest is clear in this matter. It is the upholding of our Constitution."

George Bush and his administration are dead wrong on the Iraq war and all the reasons they lied to us as reasons to justify the invasion. Now that we know they lied about Iraq, why is so hard to believe they lied about and covered up 9/11? It is not, 9/11 is the pretext to this lie of a war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

George Bush has broken the constitution into something we could call Bush Law. He alone has made more changes to legislation that passes through his presidential hands than all the presidents in the history of the United States combined.

In her decision, Taylor said the NSA program violated the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a 1978 law that prohibited intelligence monitoring of people inside the United States without a warrant. The judge, appointed to the federal court in Detroit by President Jimmy Carter in 1979, also said the program violated 1st and 4th Amendment protections of free speech and privacy, and she criticized the program as an overly broad reach of executive power.

"It was never the intent of the Framers to give the president such unfettered control, particularly where his actions blatantly disregard the parameters clearly enumerated in the Bill of Rights," Taylor wrote in the decision. "The three separate branches of government were developed as a check and balance for one another."

I ran across a website today that has been created in the last several days. The website link is http://mike-filsaime.blogspot.com/. It's a blog that talks about Mike Filsaime and his products.

This blog was created just after or soon after I created a topic talking about the to good to be true online marketing trap.

For anyone other than Mike to take the time to detail out all of this circle talk on this link is insane. This blog does the same thing most of Mike's sites do. They talk about how easy making money is and how easy anyone can achieve this. They never talk about specifics because, thats where the selling to you comes in. You see if they told you the secrets, they would have nothing to market to you.

Mike may be making millions, however he is making money by selling products that allow you to make money easy. And he allows people to become referrals to his programs, and allow them to earn money by referring his products.

One of the sites this blog links to is this one: Mike Filsaime Social Proof (http://www.downlinesecrets.com/bm/r/tomei13/home.html). This link has audio that auto starts at page load. Very annoying. The website is called downline secrets. If you go to www.downlinesecrets.com you will notice this page looks rather long. The sign of a to good to be true, make millions website. What James Grandstaff is trying to sell you on this site is another program similar to Mike Filsaime butterfly marketing scam. It is described as a way to make anyone and everyone rich. But before you buy into it you may want to read the "Earning Disclaimer".

Another site linking to the Butterfly Dropkick Script is http://www.gurupal.com/. When I first got to this site a window poped open with a link i found above(http://www.downlinesecrets.com/bm/r/tomei13/home.html).

The triangle starts to show.

Conclusion:

What we have here is a new blog created by a reseller of Mikes Butterfly Marketing and Butterfly Marketing Manuscript. Mike can make thousands selling his marketing manuscript, can you sell marks manuscript and make thousands? You can try here.

So is the trick to making money fast any easy as simple as reselling someone else's get rich quick scam?

1) In October 2000, Government Simulates Exercises of a Boeing 757 hitting the Pentagon.
2) Charles Birlingame, Navy F4 pilot participates in this exercise.
3) Birlingame retires, gets a job flying commercial jet-liners.
4) Less than 12 months later, its' HIS flight allegedly crashes into the Pentagon!

In October 2000, before the 9/11 attacks, the government simulated a Boeing 757 attacking the Pentagon.  It appears as if they are interested in how the airliner will look in the aftermath.  As though they are considering what 'scenes' to stage, for maximum pictorial effect.

Condoleezza Rice said, 'No one ever imagined a domestic airplane could be used as a weapon'. Is she sure about that!?  She obviously missed the memo.

It seems someone in the government had not only thought about it, but created a mock exercise complete with little model buildings, planes, and even rescue vehicles on the scene.

So, yes, that is a blatant lie, gone unchecked by the news media & public. You can look up the official flight data from any source.

One would assume the goal of the exercise was about the logistics of a plane strike, but oddly, you see models of little EMT trucks with flashing lights, as if the focus of the exercise, was how the scene would look in the aftermath.

FOX 'News' talks about 'how ironic' it is that an ex-navy fighter pilot was at the helm of flight 77!  However, they fail to tell you about project MASCAL.

Don't you find that odd?  Wouldn't the EXTREME IRONY alone be newsworthy?  Yet, this is probably the first you have heard about this.

The similarities and odds of MASCAL, as related to the events of 911 are beyond equation, yet they don't even mention it on FOX, CNN, MSNBC or any network news.

The major news media's are already under 'Martial Law' based  on the patriot act, it has superseded our Bill of Rights, and our Constitution.

Vote Ned Lamont. Vote for someone who wants to stand up to the Bush regime and get back the freedoms of Americans, bring our troops home. Lieberman supports the war. America does not support the war. The war was a lie, Lamon wants to bring them home.

He could help impeach Bush/Cheney regime and remove the liars from power.
