tech > Apple Computer Breaks A Tradition

For the longest time it was hard for me, a windows user, to imagine a world in which the productivity of my windows session revolved around a one click mouse. Up untill recently you could say that no mac user had a mouse with more than one button.

Yeah apple made them light up and optical and wireless but never approved of a mutifunctional mouse, untill now.

The vice president of macs product marketing said that the company, apple, waited untill it was able to design a mouse that could scroll and have mutiple button features and still had to be as simple as the original once click mouse. Sounds like bullshit to me when the requirments for the muti-purpose require Mac OS X Tiger.

How on the planet of gods green earth is it possible to create a mouse that does more than a single click, and make it just as easy to use as a single click mouse? The way it sounds, apple must think most of their users are idiots. That kind of thinking is not logical.  Apple may have a few apples that have fallen from the tree.

Windows, since 3.1 could use a mouse with two clicks, and at that time a scroll wheel wasnt even thought of. So why did it take apple so long to develope a mouse that could have these functions? Thats a good question, what was holding them back from doing this a long time ago. It could be as simple as they dont know what the hell they are doing. Proprietary this and proprietary that. It's hard to believe they couldnt have developed that kind of technology for macs in a reasonable amout of time, which is close to twenty years or more.

Welcome mac users to the 21st century. May your computer meet the requirements for a mouse that can now be called a mouse. Welcome to the world of the right click.

Today when updating a window xp pro machine an error massage appeared after boot up and continued to error out. As I thought to myself "what has changed since last boot", all i had done was run windows update.

After the security fix that fixes MS05-012 (security update 873333) is installed, you may recieve the following issues:
*  Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Error
*  File names are not displayed in e-mail messages that include file attachments.

This only happens when:
   *  The file name contains double-byte character set (DBCS) characters
   *  The file name is longer than 42 characters

You may get these issues in the following operating systems:
*  Windows 2000
*  Windows XP
*  Windows Server 2003

To get the fix for your system visit microsofts support site at this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/894391

There is no movie I know that can compare with pure immagination. Well I dont want to beef up the movie to sound better than what I thought. However I do believe that this is a decent movie. Obvious to those of us who have seen the original charlie and the chocolate factory, in the newer charlie in the chocolate factory, things differ in many ways.

But of course that goes without say. No one wants to watch a movie that is completely the same as the original.

The movie revisits a lot of the characters from the original. The parents of the few golden ticket winners differ just a little.

As you could expect the computer generated graphics are astounding and bring the factory to life.

The oompa loopas are not a bunch of different midgets in this movie, instead they are the same guy copy and pasted over and over again. He (the oompa loompa man) also doubles as woman oompa loompas. The songs they sing do not fit the old style of "oompa loompa dopadee daa". These songs at times are strange but they get the point across.

One of the major differences in the two versions, is that in the original willy wonka was more or less a crazy loud kind of guy. In the new version willy wonka's presense is that of a small boy, with a girlish talk and girlish hair. Johnny Deep, who plays wanka, is at times hard to watch and listen to. The new willy wonka has obvious childhood problems that create his boyish and childish manner.

If you can get past the way will wonka talks and looks, you should enjoy this movie just as much as I did.

As for changes in the story, non of the golden ticket winners are approached by a fake idea stealer that wants to everlasting gobstopper. Charlie and his grandpa do not float around in the bubble room. The glass elevator is introduced a lot earlier in the new movie.

In the new willy wonka there is a lot more story line behind willy wonka as a child. What he goes through that makes him turn out to be the worlds favorite candy maker.

From one to five on a rating scale, I give this movie a three. I would go with a four or four point five if Deep didnt played the wonka as, I dont know what to say. Deep is the man but I couldnt handle the way he played the role.

To visit a willy wonka and the chocolate factory website worthy of reading, check out this link. This link walks you through the movie and brings the story to life. There are many images there as well.

The body of a dead man has been identified as a known spammer. Vardan Kushnir who ran a couple of junk pot crap companies known as "the English Learning Centers", "Center for American English", and other scandelous named outfits was found dead in his apartment in Moscow sunday.  His death was caused by repeated blows to the head.Under Russian law, spamming is not considered illegal, although lawmakers are working on legal projects that could protect Russian Internet users like they do in Europe and the U.S.

The news is that it was a ordinary robber, whatever the hell that means. Witnesses say they saw Vardan leave a night club with three women. Inside the apartment when they found his body, they found sleep pills in the wine.

Even though Vardan didnt kill anyone or physically assult anyone, a death like this couldnt be any sweeter for those of us who have to search through emails at the inbox level just because Vardan chooses to run an illigitament business in Russia.

Thank the karma police in Russia for a job well done.

Congressional leaders have signed off on a purposal to extend the daylight savings time by two moths. Daylight Saving Time would start on the first Sunday in March and end on the last Sunday of November. They say it would save energy and I say bullshit.

"The more daylight we have, the less electricity we use,'' said U.S. Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), who co-sponsored the measure with U.S. Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.).

They went on to say that the additional energy that would be saved would be equivalent to 100,000 barrels of oil or about half of 1 percent of the nation's daily oil consumption. Most of the energy saved would be in the form of electricity because lights would be used less in the early evenings.

Why do we care what the energy is compared to oil? This is not going to create oil for us nor is it going to help the oil prices go down. That is where the energy problem is now. Why cant bush sign a bill to releave the country from paying too much for gas?

To detail this thought, i was sent an email from a company called paltalk.com. I had never heard of paltalk nor had i recieved any email veryfing my address and subscription.

In this email the first paragraph was read "7 Ways to recognize spoof emails." (the email is at the end of this entry)

And under this text are 3 links, 1 of which is a direct link to an image and the other two link to useless articles they have copied and pasted about email security. This all fits because part of email security is not reading emails from companies or persons you do not know to never, ever follow links in those emails. So in the same sentence they show they care, they violate the common sense of protecting your pc from unwanted trash.

At the footer of this email there are 6 other links to update your profile, unsubscribe, confirm subscription, report unsolicited email, forward to friends, and a link to topica.(the company that actually processes the spam)

Lets get the obvious out of the way. Why, in the footer of the email, have a link to confirm my subscription? If I have the option to update my profile, it would be normal to assume that i am already a part of this mailing. Not alone recieving emails from these jack asses.

When I click the update profile link i am redirected to their website with that read the following:

We'll be happy to let you update your profile for the list "Paltalk."

However to protect your privacy, an email has been sent to the address "andy@paltalkspams.org" so that you can verify that it is you who want to see and update this information. Please check your mail now for a message with the subject: Update Your Profile. Click on the link in the email and you can update your profile.

If you do not receive the verifying email message or if you have other questions,
please contact our Customer Care department.

What does this mean? You are not really a member. They bought your email address from some company that in their fine printed text said they would sell and destribute your email address to 3rd party companies.

The only information you will find when you update your profile is the information that paltalk paid for.

Paltalks main goal is to get users to download an application they offer on their website. They offer little information about paltalk and claim it to be the leader in video confrencing software along with audio chat. This appliaction is offered for free, however you will pay the price with banners in the application.

In final, paltalk has an image link at the bottom of its website that links to aluria software. This icon looks like this:

Its kind of like if someone showed up to your house, and the first thing you told them was, hey dont have anything in our house that can hurt you physically.

Why would I assume that paltalk has spyware to begin with? Doesnt this sound like they are a little nervous, a little to forward with the whole, we dont make spyware sort of sound. It sounds like the makers of weather bug before they changed their written policy and released a new version of WeatherBug(spyware).

Below is an edited version of the email they sent to me. The reason it has been edited is because my email address is tied to the links sent.

If you are microsoft, you make a list of all the employees you really dont want to lose to google. This should include anyone responsible for the overall development of MSN's Web search engine, which Lee was.

Kai-Fu Lee joined microsoft in 1998 and is the founder of Microsoft Research Asia. Microsoft has said that research area to be the best research laboratories in the world.

Now the honey moon is over. And from what microsoft says that is in lees contract, he cant work for any compeditors for a year after leaving microsoft.

Check out former Corprate Vice Presidents' microsoft tid bit site at: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/exec/kaifu/default.mspx

The lawyer for microsoft had this to say "There's a certain code of conduct in the technology industry when it comes to luring away an employee, Burt said. An interested company generally comes clean and discloses whom they want to hire. Google didn't do that, he said."

Well I have been mia. Missing in action. However the action has been going on, just not noted here. Last week I took a vacation to nags head north carolina.

The first day at the beach I talked myself out of using sunblock. The next day I was burned, still i layed out on the beach thinking that the sun screen I used on day two would mend the red skin.

This was not the case. Due to the level of burn I stayed out of suns light for two days. Only to wear a shirt to the beach the rest of the week.

We held a texas hold em round using some game board tokens as chips. I placed a good second to my brother who beat me on an all in call at the river.

I have brother who has a exscalade that he raised ten or twelve feet off the ground. At the beach it served for good purpose at the point, the point is a place out on the beach that requires a good clearance and wide tires to get to. In addition to being able to fly across the beach the escalade was good for climing sand dunns. This is not the most contemprary use for a jacked up truck, it did however scare the shit out of everyone inside the ride excluding the driver.

While there I war walked, not war drive, and found a wireless access network. After not being able to connect to it the first day I decided to take a break from everything including the internet.

Which brings me to this. The end of this entry that tells you a little about my very relaxing vacation. As always the development of blogtext continues and new features and functions are on the arise.

For the 4th of july nasa sent a mission to the face of a comet. Comet Tempel 1 is the name of the comet nasa flew a hunk of metal into, so that the trailing data collector could collect samples.

Nasa hoped this mission would help draw conclusions to our own existance and fenominons in outer space. Little did they relize they pissed of an astrologist and seeing that sheep flock, more might jump on this horse shit idea of a law suit against Nasa.

Marina Bai has sued the U.S. space agency claming the deep impact mission "ruined the natural balance of the universe". Or if you are a star wars fan, it caused a disterbance in the force.

She claims that all it has "deformed her horoscope".

I know there is nothing that needs to be said on my part, on how much of a dumb sack of shit she is but come on really, even if you won the lawsuit, every idiot in the world would sue because their horoscope was forever changed.

Lets not forget the $300,000 million she is asking for, for her moral suffering.

Take my advice. Read your horoscope and for the same day read someone elses. If you can relate to both of them, try the rest, they are all alike, broad, and they beat around the bush. A horoscope is like a prostitute, you only need one if you are not getting any at home.
