Debbie’s books raise awareness-

Debbie Stevens began writing at a very young age for fun, her mother always encouraging her along.
Poetry was one area that she seemed to enjoy the most so week after week, Debbie would submit her work to different newspapers and by the age of 9, found her very fist publication presented in a mainstream Sydney Newspaper-
Years later, Debbie would go on to have her first collection of poems published in the book, ‘A Piece of My Mind’’, a book dedicated to the memory of her mother Judy Burns, who had recently lost a short battle against Ovarian Cancer. This publication also aimed at raising awareness to the disease, with the Cancer Council of NSW supporting by purchasing 50 copies.
Six years on, and Debbie still craved to publish more of her work with the same intentions of alerting and educating the public to the seriousness of Ovarian Cancer.
*Ovarian Cancer is the eighth most common cancer in women in Australia. It will affect around one in 100 women each year. Ovarian cancer must be considered in cases of otherwise unexplained pelvic, abdominal and gastrointestinal disorders.
Ovarian Cancers are often mistakenly diagnosed as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Indigestion and menopausal conditions.
There is no reliable screening test for Ovarian Cancer.
The Pap test does not detect ovarian cancer In Australia, about 1 in 70 women will develop Ovarian Cancer during their lifetime - the most serious and life threatening of all gynecological cancers. Tragically, every year 800 Australian women will lose their battle and die from Ovarian Cancer, with one woman dying every 10 hours. As there is no early detection test or screening for Ovarian Cancer, Awareness is imperative.
