How To Choose A Bike Correctly

We have seen a change in transportation recently. While the majority of people in the western world seemed most interested in travelling via automobile, in the last couple of decades many people have been choosing the bicycle as their primary mode of transportation. It could be down to efforts to remain green, perhaps people want to save money on high gas prices, or maybe many people just want to get in shape! No matter what has caused it, the fact is there are now more cyclists on the road than in a long while. Have you been tempted to use a bike for your everyday transport needs? If so the following is some handy advice on what to look out for.

It's okay for fashion to affect the decision you make about your new bicycle. The color we like best, or the style we like least, all influence our choices. When choosing your bike you shouldn't ignore them. Looking good will be a great benefit of getting your new bike, but don't let fashion choices be the guiding decisions factors. You really need to look at safety and comfort issues before any others. After ensuring both safety and comfort, see which ones you like the actual design of best. The handlebars you choose are another important aspect. There are many different types to choose from, each better for specific roles. Traditional handlebars that just go straight out are good for maneuvering over difficult terrain. They are good for distributing your weight as you ride over a bigger area. For racing bikes you will want completely different handlebars, these handlebars will curve and allow you to ride your bike in a leaning position, this is to cut down on wind resistance and allow you to cycle faster. For those people who rarely use their bikes you can get away with just selecting comfortable handlebars that can be stored away easily.

It is important you allow for room between you and the crossbar. When you get a bike be sure to move the seat up a couple of inches from the crossbar. Make certain you can still place both feet flatly on the ground. Which bike you get will greatly alter the clearance you will require. As an example, with a touring bike you will only require around 1". However for a mountain bike you will need 3" between the crossbar and yourself.

You will see there are many things you should consider when you are finding the bike that's right for you. It can become a bit overwhelming when going shopping for a bike and accessories because there is just so much to choose from. Don't become discouraged; map out what you need for your bike and you'll be on your way in no time.
