What Do They Have In Common?

Tonight the Toronto Raptors are in Miami to take on the struggling Heat who are without the big man Shaq. When you look at Shaq I will admit Chris Bosh is not the first name that pops into your head. From a basketball standpoint they are not a like at all. Oneal is a guy who has made an NBA career based on raw power and in his prime was said to be unguardable. Bosh is thought of as a new age power forward that although under sized can beat you with speed and shot making skills. When you send these guys to the line no comparison as well. Bosh is a solid shooter at the charity stripe while the Big Diesel can be painful to watch at best.

Most feel Oneal may be done as far as his NBA career goes. He will never again be the dominant force that once ruled the NBA and was able to bring down backboards and baskets in a single bound. Bosh meanwhile is just scratched the surface of his NBA career. He is part of the same draft clash as Shaq's buddy Dwayane Wade aka Flash (Nickname Of Oneal for Wade) So what do these to men have in common?

Shaq until this season has always been know as a great player in this league. But beyond that he was had a lovable childlike attitude towards life. We can all recall over the year some of the silly just funny things that Oneal has done. The giant shoe phone he brought to the all star game one year. Many laughs and entertaining non basketball moments. If they only had Utube earlier no telling what Shaq might have posted. But Chris Bosh is back on UTube and plays a duo role of himself and Blane Harrington. This of course follows up his used car salesman type video which was part of his campaign to get all star votes. No Bubba in this video but still funny. I bet despite all his trouble in his personal life Shaq would agree. Oneal is not only facing the decline of his skills and career but a bitter divorce battle. Not much to smile about these days. Bosh on the other hand has lots to smile about including the return of his fellow Texan T.J Ford.

Bosh has developed a much lighter side over the years. He has grown more and more comfort in the spotlight. To the point now that he has created CB4TV. Which is the home of all this wacky stuff on UTUBE. This fun loving side of Chris reminds me a lot of Shaq and although they may be totally different on the floor off of it they both seem to like to have fun. Maybe Blane Harrington can interview Shaq one day I would think that would be PURE GOLD. During the long grind of an NBA season to be all about work and no play can make you angry and bitter. But it is a lot easier to have fun when your winning. I am sure Shaq will tell you that. He and his Heat have seen little of that these days. But it is great to have people like CB4 and Shaq because they are true kids at heart and make sure to understand that life is too short not to have some fun along the way.

T.J Ford can understand that in a much more serious way. He has started practice to get ready for a return. He revealed to reporters today that he had considered retirement if only briefly. But he now is focused on a return to the line up and the Raptors will be happy to have him. No word on if Blane Harrington has the scoop on the Ford Return date. But if anyone would know it might be him. It sure isn't me.

So thanks for the Laughs Shaq and Chris..in a long season Fans can use them TOO!!!

No Bosh before Moss

Since 2003 the Raptors Traditionally would have a early afternoon tip off at the ACC. The start time would usually be noon or 12:30. Usually against a Western Conference team from a different time zone giving the Raptors a nice advantage. But not this year the Raptors will be watching the Super Bowl in South Florida after Practice. It is to bad for Raptor fans. It is hard to avoid the Super hype which leads up to the game. A two and a half hour B-Ball Break was a welcomed thing in my household. I mean anyone that can or wants to watch 6 hours of pre game coverage is more of a football freak than me. Don't get me wrong I love football. I played in high school and like CB4 am a big Dallas Cowboy Fan. If Jessica Simpson hadn't screwed it up maybe I would want to watch a 6 hour pre game show. But that is water under the bridge. Still I am realistic enough to know not even the Dallas Cowboys will make the Superbowl every year. Same goes for whatever team you support. Even the undefeated Pats were part of T.V audience last year. So having a basketball game was great. The NBA seemed to like scheduling the game in Canada as in other U.S based markets drawing fans could be an issue on this unofficial American Holiday that is Super Sunday. But for some reason it was left off the schedule. So I thought I'd dig into Raptor and NFL history today. Here is the Raps Super Sunday History along with the Superbowl that happened later that day. I have to give some love to the site I found that gave me the info.

DatabaseBasketball: http://www.databasebasketball.com/index.htm

This site was amazing and I plan on keeping it handy for future use.So on to what I was able to track down.

RAPS ON SUPER SUNDAY

2003

Toronto Raptors vs.Sacramento Kings

Result: Raps Win 101- 97

Vince Carter had a team high 22 points.

Super Bowl XXXVII

Tampa Bay 48 Oakland 21

Dexter Jackson had 2 interceptions and The Bucs with coach John Gruden defeated his former franchise and maybe put the curse of Chuckie on them as the Raiders have stunk since. There former WR is playing for the Pats today that better be one heck of a 5th round pick!!!

2004

Raptors vs Lakers

Result: Lakers win 85-84. Shaq had 36 points. But was an unhappy camper as the game in his mind was poorly officiated and he used several F-Bombs to make that clear on live T.V back to L.A. He would end up lighter in the wallet from a fine.

Super Bowl XXXVIII

Pats 32 Panthers 29. Adam Vintari would be the hero kick a field goal to win it. Tom Brady was your MVP.

2005

Raptors vs Mavs

Mavs win 122-113...Chris Bosh would have 29 but foul out. Dirk put up 30 for the Mavs

Super Bowl 39 (the Heck with Roman Numerials)

Pats Edge the T.O Lead Eagles 24-21.win gives Patriots 3 titles in 4 years as they lay claim to the Dynasty tag.

2006

Raps ve Clippers

Clipps make a buzzer better to hold on for 115-113 win

Super Bowl XL

Stealers 21 and Seahawks 10, Jerome Bettis wins his only Super Bowl title and retires at Ford Field in his home town

2007

Raps VS Clips

Raps Get revenge in Rematch with Clipps in easy wn 122-110

Super Bowl 41: Devin Hester Runs the opening Kickoff for TD. But the Colts would rally and go on to win. Peyton Manning named MVP

So that is all just a 2-3 record for the team. But I will definitely miss the Raptors being on the tube for that 12-3 area. For the Record I like the PATS IN A BLOWOUT. Yes it may be that I am bitter the Giants beat Chris Bosh and My Cowboys, Or it May be that in ideal conditions the Pats will just kill the Giants. The time they meet at end of the year was in a cold New Jersey Night. Hey that might be a good title for the Nets season. I saw the the opening and took the shot what can I say. But Fast Track Warm Weather in open dome stadium points all to the P-MEN!!!

As for the men in red the play Miami Tomorrow. Heat are BRUTAL this year game the RAPS MUST GET!!!  If you go out partying this Super Sunday please be safe and DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE for all the obvious reasons and because I want you back to read again tomorrow. Have fun and enjoy the Super Bowl.

UPDATE

It isn't a Super Bowl Commercial But it is Funny!!! CB4 is Back on UTube. In a demanding Duo Role.

Does A Raptor See It's Shadow?

Happy RaptorHog Day. This is the day of the year where we all hope a little animal is smarter than humans by saying that spring will come early. Spring to basketball fans means Playoffs. Looking at the Eastern Conference right now hard to imagine the Raptors not making it in the playoffs. I mean currently New Jersey is in despite the fact I can't remember the last time they had a winning streak. But if you are willing to be a tiny bit bold I would say the Raps are a lock to get in. The question is where and against who? That answer can't be figured out by if the Raptor sees his shadow. I think ultimately the Raptors will stay in that 4-6 range. which will likely see them face the Cavs, Wizards or Magic. All not bad match-ups for the Raptors. Avoiding Lebron though would likely be a good thing given what he and Kobe  seem to be able to do against the Raptors. Not to mention Chris Bosh's girlfriend and the cry to have her banned from the building. On TNT when Bosh was interviewed she was compared to Jessica Simpson. Like the Canadian version. Something Bosh would rather not deal with. The two things a man never wants to deal with is defending his significant other or his mother. Not Fun.

Wizards and Raps would be Ideal match-up. Even with the return of Gilbert Arenas and His Hibachi. We will have T.J Ford so no really advantage gained. Raps seem to have the Wizards number too and with 2 miracle last second 3 point shots in under a year Raps have to be in the Wizards heads. Orlando still has much to prove and Winning a Division Title is nice come playoffs it doesn't mean anything. Just ask Toronto they know that. Bosh has always out dueled Howard as well throughout his career. So this is a good Match-Up too.

Basically what is being said is that I like the Raptors to advance to the 2nd round no Matter if they finish 3rd or 6th or somewhere in between. After that is anyone's guess. They have struggled to beat Boston and Detroit. Ironically and maybe stupidly I think they have the better chance to beat the Celtics. They just seem to be able to hang with them. Pistons Rasheed Wallace has owned Bosh as well. Not to many players in this league can say that.

So any other RaptorHog Predictions?  Well I did make a bunch at the Mid-Season point. Here's one Jose Caldron fans will not like. By the end of the season T.J Ford will once again be the starting point guard. I don't know if he will play more minutes than Jose but he will be the starter.

Joey Graham will be gone. Maybe this is wishful thinking on my part as I have never been in the Joey Fan club. In fact I'd need a map to find it. But I think his increase minutes of late at least getting in games is to showcase him to trade not to become part of the rotation.

Lots of trade around the league. Gasol To L.A was just the first in a flurry of trade action. I have been calling on this one for awhile. Many unhappy players and under performing teams makes for the perfect environment for CHANGE.

Some Random Rambles From The Desk Of James Borbath.

Raps TV tries to hard. The new segment they had with Sherm Hamilton during the game actually interfered with the game. I like Sherm he tries hard and it isn't his fault the people behind the scenes are to blame. Just like the unreadable score graphic at the start of the season this segment needs to go.

Kobe Bryant is just amazing. I think when I am old he along with a few others will be the stories I tell the little ones from my rocking chair. We are lucky to live in an era with so MANY talented stars. But Kobe is truly a MEGASTAR

I can't get enough of watching New Jersey SUCK. I mean I like V.C I'm not a Vince Carter hater at all. But I will say it serves him right to have what is going on in New Jersey. Chris Bosh choose to STAY and be part of the Solution and not part of the problem like Vince seems to be again.

Raps now are on the way to south beach and are being reunited with T.J Ford. Like the old song says: Reunited and it feels so GOOD. Welcome Back T.J!!!

Not You Again!!!

The Lakers had ever reason to lose but when you have Kobe Bryant sometimes that is all that matters. The Lakers arrived in Toronto at like 4am. They would wake up to huge news. The Lakers acquired Pau Gasol from Memphis for next to nothing Kwame Brown and There Rookie PG and 2 firsts in 08 and 2010. But it would leave the Lakers with just 10 healthy bodies for tonight's game with Raptors. But the one in the 24 jersey was more than healthy and anxious to make up for an embarrassing 11 turnover night last night in Detroit. Raptor fan or not you had to be impressed with the display that Kobe but on. It was no 81 points but in some ways it was more dominant. There were slam after slam thrown down tonight. The news of the trade had to inspire Kobe who has wanted the lakers to find him help and was frustrated to the point he made his famous trade demand in the summer. That is all in the past now as the Lakers have to be much further up on the food chain now in the West.

It should be noted on Raptor side of things Andrea Bargnani had a career high that is big news for him and the Raps despite the loss. He had 28 points and 4 rebounds. Bosh had 22 points and 15 rebounds. This was not a case of the Raptors playing as bad as the score might indicate. They just could not match the play of Kobe. After watching him play you have to wonder why the Bulls didn't just trade whatever was asked to make him a Bull. But A Laker he is and perhaps a Laker for good now. Raptors only played 9 players in this game.

There was more good news today as well. Had it not been for the snow storm here in Ontario T.J Ford was expected to return to Toronto tonight. But now will meet up with the team in Miami. Not to read into but Ford would get to full practices with the team in Miami and against a struggling team in the heat might make a lot of sense to evaluate just where Ford is at. But this is just educated speculation. But regardless he will now resume working out with the team and be staying with them from this point on.

The Raptors 6 game home win streak ends and against the NBA Elite teams they have not got it done falling to 2-8 vs. High quality opponents at the ACC. But still 25-21 on the year and some "winnable" games on the horizon starting Monday in Miami. Lots of rest too as raps will than not play till Friday vs. the Clippers.

Good news for the returning Ford would will need the practice time. A real chance for Sam Mitchell to get Ford back in the mix and see exactly where T.J is at. Jose Caldron has been just too good for words so the return of Ford will have to be handled in a delicate way to keep both players happy and productive. Sam Mitchell always says it is the players job to please him but in reality he will need both guys to buy in to get this team to the places he wants to lead it.

The Raps will look to escape the snow and hit south beach. They will have a excited T.J Ford there ready to get to work. No time for sun and fun as the Raps need to get on a run and keep up the strong play of January and carry it through February.

Low B-BALL IQ IS EVERYONE'S PROBLEM!!!

Yesterday I happened to catch Chuck Swirsky on the Radio. I am not a regular listener of his show but if I happen to be out and about I will flip him on. For those who have never heard Chuck's Radio show in the first part of it he will give is take on a variety of things. If you have read this blog prior to it coming to blog text you know that I have different opinions than Chuck on many things but still like him, respect him and think he is a great guy. But this is actually a time where me and Chuck are on the same page. Just like as if we were cheering on Michigan yelling GO BLUE.

Chuck is amazing at answering his email. I am dead serious too. He will respond with in minutes sometimes. Like if I sent him an email while writing this blog by the time it was posted I'd likely have a response. But after his 500th or so email about trading Joey Graham for Jason Kidd he had enough. He mentioned it in the opening of his show. Chuck was too kind to be very nasty about it. But basically he really didn't want to waste his time reading that kind of nonsense. Not that I am speaking for him but that was the basic Idea.

For those who do not know. I use to work in the media on a very minor scale. But now a days I am somewhere between fan and journalist. Beyond writing this blog, I am an officer of Toronto Raptors Fans Application on Facebook. I run my own group called Dino Nation for Raptor fans also on Facebook. Not meant to be ads for them but if you want to join them feel free. Beyond that I am a member of several other groups and forums on the Internet including the Real GM Raptor Forum and on NBA.Com. Basically. I do a lot of surfing in Raptor Groups and Post sites. I understand Chuck's frustration because I read and see the same silly posts on these places I have mentioned. In fact all the members of media get hit with these kind of silly ideas that have no base in logic or BASKETBALL IQ. Understand this is not everyone there are a lot of smart people here on the Internet.

Please understand I also read a lot of well thought intelligent things as well. But some people need to learn some basics. In fact here are 5 to get you started about trades:

  1. For A Trade to happen you must see a logical reason for BOTH teams to make it.
  2. The NBA as rule related to trades that have to meet certain requirements most notable the salaries need to be within a certain range.
  3. What are the needs of the teams involved. If a team has 3 point guards not much chance they will trade for #4
  4. What is the teams outlook and gameplan in the deal. Are they rebuilding are they looking to win now?
  5. Term of Contract. Does the player have several years left or is it an expiring contract. Cap Room to some teams is just as important as the players they may get.
At the very least all 5 of these things should be thought about before you post a trade. Just because ESPN's Trade Machine says your trade is legal doesn't mean that it makes sense. The NBA is full of bad contracts that teams regret signing. So do your homework before posting trades.

We all do not see things the same as far as players and teams go but guess what I DON'T LIKE THAT GUY is not a valid point. Tell me why and than it is. We all can learn more there is not one person that knows every single thing there is to know. Never think you are the smartest kid in the class cause I guarantee there is a smarter one somewhere on here.

State things clearly and direct. Vague questions can't be answered. Like other day I saw a question: Do You Think The Raptors Will Win The Championship? I don't know was that this year or ever? Only the guy who posted question knows for sure. That being said asking questions to learn things is a totally different story. If you don't know the answer to something there is likely someone that will know or can find out the answer. Better to ask and know than assume and look like a thing that Charles Barkley had to kiss.

There are many people I read to improve my knowledge and understanding. I watch a lot of stuff too. I understand not everyone has that kinda time. But even reading a few daily blogs like this is a way to get some fast info. But point is there is lots of information out there if you take the time to seek it out. A informed fan is generally a better fan.

Know the difference between Reality and Fact as opposed to Fantasy and Rumor. The most common thing that happens on the Internet is someone says something. Like Jason Kidd is getting traded to the Rockets for Tracy McGrady. This could be anyone saying it. But than people read that and pass it on and before you know it a trade rumor is born. It's OK to read all that stuff just don't think that it even is real unless you can find some evidence to support it. Even big networks like ESPN sometimes are wrong and not everything they say is FACT. Read stories carefully.

The other thing is be civil to other people. Just because a guy doesn't agree with you about something to do with basketball is no reason to waste everyone's time by posting names at each other like little school children. Make valid points and in the end agree to disagree and move on.

Toronto is long past the stage of saying basketball is the new thing. We have some very bright fans that have a lot of interesting things to say. But there is no more excuses for fan stupidity in the sport of basketball. Care enough to know what your posting about or in some cases calling into the radio about. People in the Media will respect those of you that care enough to but thought into you ideas. They don't deserve to have to deal with stupidity. Nor should people that read forums. So if you are the guy that thinks Joey Graham would be a could trade for Kobe Bryant. I ask you to do one of two things. A. Go back to the NHL and watch Hockey they need all the help they can get. B. Take the time to develop some basketball IQ. It is easy just requires some reading and a little common sense. The best thing is that you can always improve your Basketball I.Q

For those who say hey I do all that why are you wasting my time? I am trying to help you and me and everyone that wants to beat the guy who invented the ESPN Trade Machine with a bat. Life was simpler before everyone in the world had free reign to be a G.M. Sad thing is some of the stuff you read on the internet would make Rob Babcock look like a great G.M. That is as sad as it gets. So remember only you can prevent Low Basketball IQ. Next Time you see it being used speak up and say something. Ignoring it makes you part of the problem. Be part of the solution. Just like Chris Bosh with the Raptors on the floor. He stayed here and made things work. Don't Be a V.C or J.Kidd and demand a trade from your favorite Raptor Forum or Group.

So ends this Public Service Blog on Basketball IQ

Raptors > Bosh IN Jose Out and T.J Coming SOON

In.......Out

That is the final word about All Star selections. Chris Bosh will be going to his 3rd straight all star game but the story will be more about Jose not going. Should he have gone? Even I as a T.J Ford fan will say yes. I may not have a month ago but as we sit here today Jose was good enough to go. Many feel Joe Johnson is the reason why he isn't. The Atlanta Hawk who plays on the U.S National Team is in. You say what does that have to do with it? Well last time I checked coaches and majority of NBA personal were American. Jose is from Spain and plays in Canada. So Johnson the more established American gets the support. It makes sense if you believe we all have a natural cultural bias towards our own. But the fact that Johnson plays on a losing team in the Hawks and Jose on a winning team in the Raptors was not enough to overcome that. The fact Caldron has better numbers also was not enough to overcome that. But before you all write your angry letters to David Stern crying foul hold on a second.

Chris Bosh also the year prior to his first all star appearance did not make it. For different reasons in fact ironically one of them being he played on a losing team. But none the less he was better than some that made it and still sat home. Sometimes it takes a year of being wrongly left off the all-star team to have people take notice.

There was lots written about Jose and the chance of him getting in and there will be lots more written about him not getting in. When that next time comes his way people will remember that. You would hope they will anyway. Not to mention fans in Canada and Spain when he actually will be on the ballot next year will no doubt vote in large numbers. The best way to get in is get voted in. Nothing is left to chance. Vince Carter for years got in based on the fans more than on his talent. That is not to say he wouldn't have made it but with some of his injury filled seasons he may not have.

The good thing about all of this is although Jose will rightful be disappointed it will change nothing. I don't think guys that grow up and play in Europe care as much about the thing they achieve as a person as much as what they achieve with their team. North America is a star driven society and praise the individual honors like ALL STAR appearances. In the end it as is kind of a joke. I mean the fact Steve Nash are very own Canadian had to wait till tonight to be named to the team in itself is a joke. It would be fitting if Jamario Moon takes Jose to the game to be the guy that gives him a pass for the dunk contest. I think all Raptor fans would like to see it. Plus Jose being there will no doubt do interviews and make himself more known to the American public. Helping him again when that next chance will come along.

I had a campaign on Facebook to Get T.J Ford to the All Star Game. But the reason behind that in part was out of fear he would not have another chance to do so. His career at the time was in jeopardy. Those days seem to be done and depending on who and what you believe a Ford return should be coming very soon. Which leads to the age old question in Toronto which is far more important than the ALL STAR Game. Which is what will happen now.

I had a plan for that which I shared on the show HOOPS on the FAN 590 and Raptors TV. It goes like this. Jose remains the starter and even T.J will admit he will need time to rebuild his in game stamina. Than when T.J feels he is ready he should be given 3 games to try to make his claim to his old job as starter. Than Sam Mitchell can decide. The guys on HOOPS who's opinions I value did not agree as likely Many who read this may not. But I think it is fair and allows T.J the chance to keep what was his. The example used by the guys was the football one of Tom Brady and Drew Bledsoe. Brady of course Famously came in replaced Bledsoe and if all goes well come Sunday will have Super Bowl Ring number four. But T.J isn't Drew Bledsoe. He is a top talent and he like Jose is a top point guard in this league. Bledsoe post New England was a decline in talent and eventually got replaced by Tony Romo in Dallas and eventually retired. If T.J retires it will be due to injury not lack of talent.

The other thing they did kick around was the option of both T.J and Jose at the same time. This is something the Raptors have played with off and on over the last year and a half. It could be a very effective thing should the Raptors develop it in the second half of the season. I like this option and would not mind seeing it more. If the Raptors had landed Damon Stoudamire it would make that option of both guards at once even more realistic as you would have a 3rd solid point guard. But Starters minutes with the defending World Champs who could pass on that?

In the end I'm old school I think T.J deserves the right to stake his claim on his old job as starter. It is the right thing to do. Not like it would bury the Raptors should he be unsuccessful in a few games as the starter. But as Jack Armstrong says this is a positive problem despite the fact so many Raptors fans do their best to make it a negative one.

In that vain we should not lose sight of the fact that although Jose did not get in. Chris Bosh did. He has established himself as a ALL STAR and a great player in this league. He should get some love too. Rather than the typical negative reaction to the fact of what didn't happen. We also have 3 others heading to ALL STAR WEEKEND in Moon, Bargnani and Kapono. That is the most ever Raptors taking part in the All Star festival. In the end ALL STAR WEEKEND is nothing more than a glorified advertisement for the NBA. No one gets anything from it other than publicity. Keep that in mind. So with that said I will leave you to your many posting as to WHY JOSE GOT SCREWED. He did but honestly it isn't that bad. Fans will likely take this harder than the guy himself.

Oh and one last thing if you need something to pick up your spirits. V.C isn't going to be there this year playing as well. I am sure when Jersey comes to town Raptor Fans will remind him.

Here is a list of all the reserves East and West

Not Tonight!!!

The Toronto Raptors at some points in this season have looked like a elite dominant team. Tuesday was not on of those times but Wednesday was one. The same team against them still down Caron Butler was no match for the Raptors as they tied a franchise record with a 39 point win 122-83. What was different? Andrea Bargnani is the first part of your answer. He had 19 points to the lead the team in scoring. Raptors had 6 players in double figures in the scoring ledger. Every player played and every player scored.

One of the things said after Tuesday game had to be about rebounding. The Raps listened and won the battle of the glass 38-36. They shot an amazing 56.6% from the field and an even more jaw dropping 72.2% from 3 point range. The team responded and answered the call.

Chris Bosh who had to play 50 minutes the night before only had to play 20 in this game and he would make it a productive 20 minutes with 16 points and 3 rebounds. He will no doubt be hearing his name called to be heading to his 3rd straight all star game. The question is will Jose Caldron? He continued to add to his resume with you standard Jose 11 point and 11 dime effort. He truly has been amazing he is on pace to join an elite group as only few players in NBA history have shot better than 50% from field, 40% from 3 point range and 90% from free throw line. Only guys like Steve Nash, Larry Bird and 2 others have managed to do that. This also goes along with his record setting pace of assist to turnover ratio. I know if not this year there should be a year that Jose will be an All Star but many feel that time is NOW.

Jose has Juan Dixon Backing him up and he has heard enough about mighty mouse to last a lifetime apparently. He lead the bench with 12 points and 5 assists. It has been a frustrating year for Dixon always being talked about in trade rumors and learning to play point guard and getting limited minutes. Carlos Delfino had 11 he was in that same spot as Juan last year in Detroit. In Total the bench had 55 points with everyone playing and scoring. Including Maceo Baston who had not played this year in fact had not played in a few months. He got 6 points and 4 rebounds in 9 minutes

So what was different with the Wiz? Let's start at the top of the food chain. That would be Mr.Jamison who had a 24 points and 20 rebounds night before. On this night just 11 points and 4 rebounds. The drop off was across the board as the Washington team seemed like they had no gas left in the tank by the 3rd quarter where on Tuesday they pulled away. But on Wednesday they got put away. They hope to have Caron Butler back for a Friday Match up with the Jazz back home in Washington.

Raptors will take on another banged up bunch in the Lakers. Down Arizia and Bynum but the still have the Kobe Bryant guy. He is pretty good and having an M.V.P like year. But the Raptors are the last team you need to remind just how deadly he can be for obvious reasons. Despite all the all star game focus that will dominate the media, Raptors still have much work left to do prior to the all star break. 3 confirmed guests to New Orleans are:

  • Jamario Moon (Rookie team and Slam Dunk Contest)
  • Andrea Bargnani ( Softmore Team )
  • Jason Kapono ( Defending his 3 point title he won as a member of Miami)

Bosh and Caldron will see if their tickets are in the mail today. Also today we should know where exactly Mighty Mouse will go if you believe his agent. The rumor mill say that the Spurs are the front runners and they may have to be as injured point guard Tony Parker may require surgery to repair his injured ankle. The French star is said to need to have bone chips removed that are causing his pain. just typing that made it seem painful.

Today will be a Double Blog day as after the dust has cleared will talk Mighty Mouse and All Star Game sometime tonight so be sure to check back before you call it a night.

3 Keys To Raptor Franchise???

While I am writing this it could be possible Damon Stoudamire is signing a contract to become a Raptor again. There were serious hints dropped during the Toronto game at Washington that lead you to believe this could be happening. Stoudamire has to wait till 12 midnight to sign somewhere and that passed about 30 minutes ago. Bryan Colangelo signed Steve Nash at 12:01 the first possible moment he could. Same goes for current Raptor Jason Kapono. So why would Damon be any different. Boston, Spurs,Cavs and Colangelo's former team the Suns all were said to have eyes on Mighty Mouse.  Damon's Agent said this will not be about money or term and that his client is looking for a chance to win and to get this done quickly. A chance to win an NBA Title that is. Many would say Raptors wold be number 5 on that list as far as title hopes go. But Damon has always said he holds no ill will to Toronto and in fact says quite the opposite. The Status of T.J Ford is a mystery at the moment to the general public. Ford had stated he would return this season and continues to rehab down in Houston with John Lucas. More on T.J later on. But as of this moment Damon would be the number two point guard behind the rising star that is Jose Caldron. He would play in other words. It seems though that for Toronto Stoudamire is option A. The other 4 teams are looking at other options not to say Toronto isn't but they seem to think Stoudamire is a good fit. I agree with that he has a game that would fit nice in the Raptor system. He can make a 3 point shot and is an above average passer and realistically would only need to play about 15 minutes a night. Toronto Fans unlike with Vince Carter seem to long forgot the tiny point guard trade demand and ugly exit to Portland. Most Raptor fans would welcome him back and he would get treated like a returning hero by all accounts. The fact Toronto is not the best option as far as winning a title may not matter as the other thing that has been made clear is that Damon intends to test the free agent market and you would think would still have some if not all of those other options he has now in the summer. The chance to rewrite history has to be appealing as well. If he does come I can tell you this he never had the talent in Toronto than as he would now. In fact you could argue the point this would be the most talented team he has ever played for should it happen. Big reason for that is Chris Bosh.

Bosh has been on an amazing run as of late. On Thursday he is not worried if he will hear his name announced as a reserve on the Eastern Conference All Star Team. He is a lock, knowing Chris he will be more concerned if his team mate Jose Caldron will be a long for the ride. That is what kind of a person he is a team first superstar. This is not to say it isn't clear who leads this pack of Raptors. He is the franchise player in every way shape and form. Vince Carter was never as respected as Chris Bosh. Maybe that is why Carter was floored to hear the people that use to love him chant M V P for the guy that replaced him as the face of the franchise. Not that Bosh cares he is more concerned with the fact his team was put out by Vince's team. But as the Raptors head towards another playoff appearance. Vince Carter is watching his Nets sink and the team leader say he wants to abandon ship. CB4 could have said that but Bryan Colangelo came along and Bosh like the entire Raptor fan base was impressed by Colangelo and put his faith in Bryan to do the things he does like the signing of a guy like Damon or whatever needs to be done to make the Raptors a contender in the short and long terms. He has more than done his part though as Bosh night in and night out does everything Sam Mitchell asks of him and a few things more that he doesn't ask. Mitchell like Colangelo has earned the trust and respect of his superstar player. Colangelo even was able to find Bosh a fellow Texan to be is running mate in T.J Ford. Things have not went smooth for Ford. But it is clear that he and Bosh have a strong relationship and despite the new found chemistry between Bosh and Caldron, Chris no doubt wants his fellow Texan back and playing at the high level he was on that night in Atlanta.

Ford is still in Houston. He is doing somethings with John Lucas to prepare to return and stay healthy hopefully. In pro wrestling when you train a wrestler the first thing you do is teach them how to take a bump. Wrestlers are trained how to take falls and withstand impact. Ford under the watch of Lucas is kind of doing the basketball equivalent. He is learn how to take falls and protect his body. Ford is much like Allen Iverson in some ways. They both have a similar body type and they both take hard crashing fouls resulting from the great speed and force they drive to the basket with. Bryan Colangelo said that T.J would have to learn how  to play smarter. That process seems to be going on in Houston. Not to mention there has to be a huge mental hurdle to climb as well. Fear of what might happen as Ford has now had to very scary falls that a lesser person would not have been able to return from mentally never mind his body recovering. So how long this process of re-education and mental  recovery is going to take is up to anyone's guess. But with 8 million dollars per season invested in Ford they want to be sure they have done everything they can to have him back and effective as well as safe. They now have another point guard that they must resign and what will be a very big number. How big will it be the number seems to be growing daily with every start for Jose Caldron. If the Raptor have him and Ford with Damon they would be the only team in the NBA with 3 guys that all could play starter minutes at the point guard position and be very effective.

So the present and Future of the Toronto Raptors is really up in the air. We haven't even mentioned the desperate need of a rebounding big man. But Bryan Colangelo still has about a month left to find the answer to that problem. A return of Mighty Mouse would be nice and all but there is more that needs to be done. There is another Big Man that also needs to improve that being Andrea Bargnani. But despite the fact of all these things the organization knows when the time is to be fast and act. They also no when to be patient and wait. If they could only teach the fan base to do the same. But let's face it Bryan is good but is anyone that good? Raptor fans are maybe even to big a challenge for him to tackle.

Should anything be made official on the Mighty Mouse Front there may be another blog today. If not talk with you all tomorrow!!!.

Max $Money$ ???

The last time Gilbert Arenas was a free agent he apparently flipped a coin 10 times and Washington won 3 times so he signed there. That makes no sense at all. But than it is rare anything he every will do does. But the one thing he has learned to do is be different in a see of NBA stars there is only one man that can be Agent 0. Last season his injury and that of team mate Caron Butler doomed the team to a first round loss to the Cavs. However things would still be o.k for Arenas he would get the cover of EA Sports NBA LIVE for 08 and hopeful rehab and be ready to fight again this season. A important season as he will be going on the market after this year.

However things would not exactly go as planned. Many have whispered that Arenas was not exactly the most ideal rehab patient. He tends do his own thing and without playing in the Pre-season many wondered how ready he actually was? The answer would end up not ready enough and he would required more work be done on his bad knee. Another season down the tubes for him and the Wizards. But not so fast the Wizards have managed just fine without him. Caron Butler who also missed the playoffs is having a career year. He along with Jamison have lead Washington to being in the mix as far as playoffs go in the East. They also as a group are much improved on defense. Many will say that a Wizards team without Arenas is a better defensive team. He is a lazy defender and looks to just outscore his man rather than play defense on him.

So if you are the Washington Wizards what do you do this off season? Arenas is determined to get max money. The zero number he wore was to represent the number of minutes he was told he would get at Arizona. Now is more about the zero's he wants in his pay check. Not to mention Arenas and his brash attitude making guarantees via his blog and clashing with coach Eddie Jordan at times. They do get along but they don't always seem to be on the same page. In the end the Wizards may be best off to let him walk. Some one will give Arenas his max money. He aside from being a great basketball player is a great personality to have associated with your team. He well sell you a lot of jerseys with that 0 on the back. He will score a lot of points too. But the question of his injured knee and if his best days may be now in his rear view mirror are really out there for debate.

This time it may be the Wizards wanting to flip that coin and figure out what they should do. They really should decide before he returns because once he does they may get distracted by his scoring and ability. But looking at the team without him and based on the demand of max money I would not bring him back. New Jersey Nets felt pressured into keeping Vince Carter and look at how that is working out year one. Caron Butler has become a solid NBA ALL STAR. He may not make the game the proves it but this guy is having an All Star type season. he can be the leader.

There is a song "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers that says you got to no when to hold'em No when to fold"em and no when to walk away. So take the advice of the country star Washington walk away and fold on Agent 0. It is risky but the key in sports is to know when a player has maxed out his talent and when he may start to slide. Contracts that are large can cripple a franchise should you not get what is expected from him. Miami Heat will tell you point blank should you need conformation. Shaq is the Big Contract now more than the Bog Diesel.

This is not to say I don't like Gilbert Arenas. I think he is great for the league. He in a unique character in a see of politically correct answers and attitudes he is different and stands out. But despite all of that I am not willing to say he is worth max money and the Wizards should resign him. Unlike Gilbert I have to grow my blog and that can't happen without me being honest and direct. I am sure Gilbert can understand that. I am as the kids say keepin it Real. I think the kids say that anyway. I am not hatin on my boy Agent Zero though. Word up. O.K that was enough of that. Nothing more sad than an old guy trying to rap.

Before I put this blog to bed I have something to get off my chest. Will fans please learn the basics before you go posting all over the Internet. When teams are making a trade you need to see both sides of the trade. Sure it be nice if you could just take all your unwanted players and dump them on a team but that is not realistic. Even the Timberwolves got a lot of value for Kevin Garnett despite it not showing at the moment. Very few times are trades made that are completely lopsided and those G.M's on the wrong end of those trades don't last long. Second here this loud and clear. No Team is Trading for an injured Player. Especially one with an injury that can likely reoccur if not careful. Meaning T.J Ford is not getting traded anywhere anytime soon. The old trading he will be doing is where he is living as far as moving back from Houston to rejoin Toronto. Remember only you can prevent fan stupidity one person at a time. Work hard to be a smart fan that knows what you are talking about that is all I'm asking. If you don't know something ask someone. Ask me. I do my best to be knowledgeable but even I turn to others when I don't know and try to find the answer. Your Questions, Comments and Thoughts are always welcomed here. So till Tomorrow be Smart and help educate those who need the help.

The Good Old Days

Vince Carter and his New Jersey Nets lost AGAIN yesterday. Vince really if all is right in the world will not make the All Star Team and does not deserve too. I am not one of the typical Vince Carter hating Raptor Fans. I should point that out off the top. Vince left he moved on I moved on it was a successful break up between us both. I still have old pictures like the one at the top of the blog but I have them to remember the good times. Many point to the hiring of Rob Babcock as the point where V.C wanted out. He had been pushing hard for Dr. J to be the next G.M. Carter was a big fan of the man and respected him. That was the point that Vinsanity truly died. You have to wonder if the loss yesterday marked the end of V.C and the Nets in his mind.

They say the best revenge in life is living well. Well Raptors have done that. They won first ever Division Title without Vince Carter. They cam oh so close to sending Carter packing personally out of last year's playoffs. This year Jersey and the playoffs in the same breath seems like an awful mistake. The Nets look closer to the Knicks that they do the Raptors. You have to wonder if late at night Vince alone doesn't think why did I leave. True is though no one can say what would have been. Would the Raptors still be Vince's team that seems unlikely with the rise of Chris Bosh.  What if in life can drive you nuts. Best not to think about it.

Lately another Ex-Raptor has been talking about a possible chance of a return to his roots. Damon Stoudamire regrets his leaving many years ago. After a storm exit by Isaiah Thomas Young Stoudamire felt he needed to follow his mentor out of Toronto. But that was long time ago and the fans who once booed Damon when he was drafted and when he left may turn that booing to cheering one last time. But the hate for Vince Carter runs far to deep to ever imagine him returning. Not even to have his number retired after his career is long and done. Nothing is impossible in sports but the idea of Vince Carter being a Raptor again seems highly unlikely.

What is much more likely is that he like his cousin T-Mac may be heading for team number three. McGrady left Toronto as well than had a failed time in Orlando and as of late no success in Houston not even a playoff series win. The future of Vince Carter is highly in doubt in many ways. His legacy a confusing one. There are great moments that you will never forget. Like the Dunk contest in Oakland or the time he jumped a 7foot plus French man making the ultimate poster. Deep down Vince is not a bad person. I honestly think that is the truth. But does he love basketball? Does he hate losing? I don't think he does at all. Sure Vince loves what basketball brings him a great lifestyle and some fame. But if that big check he gets was not coming in would Vince be a basketball player. If he had to play for 17 teams or whatever the number is like Jamario Moon to get to the NBA do you think he would?

There was great thought that Vince Carter going to the Nets would make them a contender in the east. But instead the team he left is the contender and the team he is with is a mess. Much like the team in Toronto was when he left. But unlike in Toronto the complete blame can't fall on Vince in New Jersey. His coming prevented Jason Kidd from going. But it would seem that was only a band aid solution as Kidd seems totally through with the Nets and has been sometimes quietly sometimes not suggested he would rather not be there. Carter only can be blamed for the same things he could in Toronto. Other than the long injury time outs that rest remains the same. The laughing when your down 20. The clowning around with other players. Sam Mitchell has said he likes Vince and has no issue with him. That is because he no longer is on Sam's team cause if he was I think Sam would have lots off issues with Vince Carter. But not his problem he is gone and not likely to return.

That may not be case with Raptor Fans though. V.C hate is alive and well. There will no doubt be posts in response to this blog that Vince is a Quitter and those will be the nice ones. However Rap fans have not learned something that Tracy McGrady should have taught them. T-Mac unlike Vince loved the boos in Toronto. He said and he was correct that people boo me because they loved me. That is true. Deny all you like but many of you that hate Vince today once loved him as your own. Hate and Love are a fine line we have all had bad relationships that can illustrate the point. The ultimate way to disrespect Vince Carter is to ignore him and move on.

You can bet if he was asked back into the lives of all of you now he would jump at the chance. He may even retract his statement about dunking being over rated. I guess what I am saying is you won Raptor fans. V.C has lost he is on the team that is a mess. You are cheering for a team going to playoffs for second year in a row. Do I expect anyone to listen? Not at all. But still at some point the Vince Carter era needs to be put to bed. Still to this day he comes up in Chats,Forums, and Blogs. The time is long over. In fact if Joey Graham gets trade there really is nothing left from the trade that sent him to New Jersey.

I can tell you honestly Vince Carter will end up regretting leaving Toronto. But he may never get a chance to go home again. The next stop for V.C? Is there one? Who knows at this point but he is in trade rumor after trade rumor. All I know is one of those teams is not the TORONTO RAPTORS. Not that deep down Carter may wish it was. The grass looks pretty green under all that snow in Toronto.
