Soon after the 5.12 Wenchuan earthquake took place, taxi drivers in Chengdu, which is located more than 60 kms away from Dujiangyan, one of the worst hit areas in the quake, learned on the radio that large numbers of cars are need to transport the wounded quake victims to Chengdu for treatment. Without second thoughts, all the taxi drivers who got to know the news rushed to Dujiangyan to carry 

victims to Chengdu as volutary workers. It is estimated that a total number of 1200 taxi drivers rushed there for the rescue operation. The drivers kept working for days without being paid. Some of their family members also cooked a lot of food for the drivers to take to the quake zone for the people in need. Their heroic deeds greatly relieved the pressure for the government to carry the victims to Chengdu for timely treatment.
