How to tell if mesothelioma is actually involved here is a complex undertaking. Without these medical tools at our disposal, symptoms and our suspicious, there are very little to help us screen who has the illness and who not. There are no predictability or identifying criteria that we can use to tell us.

No standard procedure or standardized, universal tool or utility for screening potential victims or patients are available. You could know that you have been exposed to asbestos, but there is no magic way of telling who will actually develop the disease and who not. There has in recent years been some detailed research done on this topic. Some studies show that there is a possibility that the serum osteopontin level might be indicative of mesothelioma. An elevated level that is detected can lead to more likely chance and probability for the disease to develop. More medical and diagnostic testing (see elsewhere on this page), will have to be done to confirm the diagnosis.

Telling how progressive the disease is and how far it has spread or developed is important. The outcome of this determination on the stage of the disease, will have a lot to do with the selection and intensity of the treatment.

It could be identified and diagnosed as localized or advanced – determined by the spread and severity of the occurrence throughout the body or tested, surveys areas.

Asbestos deposits in bodily cavities is a serious matter and could cause discomfort or even death, so great care is taken with the diagnosis itself as well. Whether it is in the organ linings, membranes and/or cavities will be indicative of how serious things are and how far the disease spread and/or has taken hold of the body in question. The diagnosis, prognosis and treatment is then based on these findings and outcomes.
