The summer holidays are always the holidays where you meet new friends and find true love. That is what Veronica mom has always told her. But she also warned her that what she might think as love won’t always be true. Veronica thought of her mother’s words as she drove into the best summer town of all, Sun Ville. Here she was going to spend her holiday with her best friend Cat.
As she got closer to the house, she could see that the Cat already started the party and she had no idea where she would find a parking sport. She got to the driveway when she saw that she had a reserved space. While getting out the car, someone suddenly took her hand. She jerked her hand back and reached for her pepper spray, when he spoke, “Please don’t use that. I didn’t mean to startle you. Cat didn’t say you were defensive.” Veronica removed her hand from the bag without the spray, as she heard a familiar name. “Ok, I won’t use it. But don’t you know that it’s not nice to grab a woman’s hand without asking?” she replied and got out. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude,” he said and turned to walk away. “Don’t walk away. At least give me you name. You don’t look like the type to be intimidated by anyone though,” she said, trying hard not to laugh. He turned, smiled and said, “I’m Greg,” and walked away. She stood there for a few minutes, pondering about what happened and started unloading her bags. As she closed the boot, someone suddenly touched her. Thinking it was Greg, she turned around smiling. But it wasn’t him. Instead it was her ex-boyfriend, Luke. Her face went into a frown when she asked, “What the hell are you doing here, Luke?” “Well, seems like I’m not the guy the smile was for. And if you can’t remember that well Veronica, my house is right next door. Thought I’d drop by and say hi,” he replied sarcastic. “In that case hi and goodbye,” she said angry and picked up her bags. She looked at him and started walking away when he suddenly grabbed her arm. She turned her head, while trying to pull her arm loose and said, “Please let go or I’ll scream.” “No one will hear you because the music is playing full blast and everyone are inside,” he replied with an evil grin. “I think that I’ll hear her,” Greg replied sarcastic from behind him and as Luke turned to look at the person behind hi, Greg punched him. Luke went straight to the ground, clamping his nose. Veronica just stood there, trying not to smile when Greg spoke again, “Can I help you with your bags?” Veronica only nodded and smiled. She knew that this was going to be a great summer although she doubted that true love would be found. However, she knew that a least she made a new friend and followed Greg into the house to start the summer of fun.

A fishing expedition which the famous four will never forget. This is their story. They were on their way to Pearly Beach when Samantha (Sam) suddenly spoke, “Something’s not right.” Everyone looked at her, not knowing what she meant but knew that she’s always been strange. She always had this weird way of making you feel uncomfortable, like now. Most of the time her feelings were right but she didn’t always get them. Danny stopped the Land rover Discovery at the Caltex garage in Gansbaai and turned to look at her. “What do you mean by something is not right?” he asked a bit worried. Sam smiled at him and replied, “Don’t worry; it’s not a bad feeling, just strange.” Kim started laughing when she said, “Just get us to Pearly Beach and then we can talk.” James just nodded in agreement. James and Kim have been married for two years, same as Sam and Danny and knew them for four years. So they knew all about her strange feelings and didn’t really scare that easy anymore. They arrived at their holiday house in Pearly Beach. They unpacked the Discovery and started relaxing. Tomorrow was the big day for fishing but now was for relaxing. The men started the fire and the ladies did the salad. After having a nice dinner, they all headed for an early night. They were a bit exited and nervous for the following day. “Sam, do you still have the strange feeling?” Danny asked softly, holding her tight. “No dear. Don’t worry about it. Get a good nights rest. Love ya,” she replied and kissed him. At four the following morning they all got up. Sam and Kim packed the food and drinks, while James and Danny packed the fishing gear. At five they were on their way down the beach. Half an hour later they stopped at the famous “Holbaai” as locals called it. Danny and James started getting the gear ready while the ladies drank coffee. Kim started asking Sam questions. “Any strange feelings going on? Maybe lucky feelings?” and started laughing. “No need to mock me, Kim. I can’t help the feelings I get. To be honest the feeling is getting stronger with every second,” she replied a bit hurt by Kim’s laughter. Kim smiled at her and replied, “Don’t worry. I do believe your feelings but at this moment I believe that we are in for some great fishing.” The got out and helped the men. As the first light started showing, Sam’s strange feeling got worse. She decided to get her camera before she went into a strange unexplainable trance, which always happened as things started happening. While walking back to her fishing pole, it happened. Danny suddenly shouted, “Damn, something’s pulling hard on my rod!” James looked at him and replied, “Mine too.” They turned to Kim, who was trying hard to stay on the beach. Sam went into a trance at this moment, her heart pumping faster than ever before. She grabbed her rod just before it went into the water and started bringing her line in. They all looked at her and new this was the strange feeling. The wind suddenly picked up speed and no one cloud hear the other one speak. They were struggling hard to stay out of the water. None of them had the slightest idea what type of fish or thing was on their lines. After an hours’ struggle everything went still, even the lines slacked. Everyone took a breather, except Sam. Danny shouted at her, “Are you ok Sam?” She turned her head slowly and said very calmly, “Start reeling now!” They did so and about half way, the wind started and the lines when stiff again. This was the last fight and someone or something had to win. Then minutes later, the 5m long Great White Shark lay infront of them on the beach. None of them could believe their eyes. Sam took pictures, for proof and for her strange feeling scrapbook. James suddenly spoke, “We better phone someone.” They nodded in agreement and he did so. For the rest of their fishing holiday, they were the famous four, who caught a Great White Shark with your average fishing rods. The end |
