A classic book for young people and those young at heart.

Reddick's writing style fuses beautifully with Charr Floyds illustrations to bring to life the wild

adventures of Ashley and her little pal Tina.

This book is sure to be a mainstay for bedtime storytellers everywhere.

Ashley’s Unforgettable Summer by Grace Reddick is an excellent children’s book. Ashley, the main character, captures your attention with her unpredictable chimpanzee, Tina. The colorful illustrations blend in well with the story that is being told.

Precocious Ashley and her chimpanzee are faced with one intriguing dilemma after another. These “little” dilemmas become even more amusing as the story reaches its apex. The book is well written, as it shifts from chapter to chapter.

The author is to be commended, and I strongly recommend it for readers of all ages. It is an excellent book for school libraries.

One of the most disturbing things that can keep us awake at night is the feeling that we're being used by someone.

The seeds for this sleepless night are usually planted several days earlier, when you began to suspect something isn't right with a relationship. Suddenly, it becomes obvious that you aren't being loved for yourself, but rather for what someone thinks they can get from you. How distressing!

As you lie awake, a battle rages in your mind: "Am I supposed to be a doormat and let them use me? Would this honor the Lord?" "Is this what it means to be ‘submissive'?" "Do I have the right to get angry?" "Lord, I don't want to put up with this!"

What does God say? What is His formula for putting these thoughts to rest and getting a good night's sleep? He says, "...pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you..." (Matthew 5:44, NKJV).

The key lies in prayer. Once you begin blessing and praying for those who "spitefully use you" you will sleep like a child.

Granted, all your questions about how to handle this situation may not be answered immediately, but at least you will be at peace with God so that He can later instruct you on how to proceed. Then, whether He tells you to leave the situation or to endure, you will know that you are in His will!

God loves you and wants to answer your prayer. Say this prayer with me:
Heavenly Father, right now I fully forgive ________________ for using me. Help me to pray for them so that You will be glorified. Thank You that I can rest in complete faith that You will guide me in handling this, and hearing Your voice, I will do Your will. . In Jesus' Name, Amen.
HUGS

Special to Bryan County Now | Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 12:30 am.

Since the publication of her first book, "Ashley's Unforgettable Summer," in 2007, Grace Reddick's life has been a whirlwind. When writing her first book, she did not realize the tremendous impact it would have on people.

"I have always enjoyed writing. I began to journal many years ago, and found it to bring healing for my mind and spirit. It also enables me to seek and express my inner self," Reddick said.

Reddick has been invited to participate at many school events throughout the local area where she has spoken to hundreds of students about her book. Her granddaughter and inspiration for the book, Ashley, is a teacher at Sand Hill Elementary in Rincon.

Reddick enjoys being given the opportunity to speak at the various schools. She captivates the students with her story about Ashley and her unforgettable and challenging summer. Not only does she participate on various school programs, she also donates books to all the schools and libraries she has been invited to. She wants children to have access to the book, and believes that reading is a vital part of learning.

"I am grateful my book is helping others, and children are reading it," Reddick said. On Nov. 14, she is scheduled to participate in South Effingham Middle School's Annual Career Day.

Reddick has received book reviews from as far away as Melbourne, Australia. Book reviews have also come from Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Massachusetts, California and Utah.

Since becoming a published author, Reddick has joined various writers' groups. She is a member of the International Society of Poets, a member of the Christian Pen, a member of Authors' Den, and is also a member of CWTR (Christian Women Take Root). She is proud to be a Ministry Partner of the Fellowship of Christians and Jews.

Reddick is currently working on her second book, "Forsaken Land." Her second book is also a children's book. "I hope it will be published the first part of next year," she said.

"Once my second book is completed, I plan to write on a personal and spiritual level. My deepest desire is to uplift and bring renewed hope to readers who may be experiencing difficult life circumstances."

Reddick grew up in Savannah, and now lives in Ellabell. You can visit her Web site at http://www.grace4books.com.
