WoW spielt in der fiktiven, schon aus den anderen World of Warcraft-Spielen bekannten, “Azeroth”, welche sich in die Kontinente “Kalimdor” und “Östliche Königreiche” aufteilt.
Gesteuert wird der WoW Charakter in diesem Spiel durch viele verschiedene Instrumente und Steuerelemente innerhalb des WoW Spiels welche vom Benutzer mit Maus und Tastatur angewählt werden. Die Spielewelt von WoW Gold wird in einer comic-ählichen dreidimensionalen Grafik wiedergegeben, bei der der Charakter durch die Verfolgerperspektive gesteuert wird.
